Water + Greens Detox

When you are ready to move beyond the Just Add Water Detox of just adding water, I suggest what I call the Water+Greens Detox. You keep doing the water with lemon before every meal, except that for Breakfast you will replace your typical breakfast with some water based fruit – watermelon, cantaloup, pineapple, apples, oranges, mangoes, etc. As much as you want, but no bananas. Nothing against bananas – they are wonderful. They just aren’t water based. And the theme of detoxing is to keep it light. Also, if you have a melon – don’t combine it with any other fruit except another type of melon – watermelon, honeydew, cantaloup. It may even be easier to just pick one type of fruit and not combine.

 

Then for lunch and dinner – eat your typical meal with some raw leafy greens. That means no matter what you are eating – even a double cheeseburger with super sized french fries – put a fist full of spinach or baby spring mix on the side. Just get one generous serving of raw (not sautéed or steamed) greens with lunch or dinner. A great idea would be to eat the greens first, then the comfort food.

 

So why raw leafy greens? Chlorophyll and enzymes!! Chlorophyll is like the blood of plants and that blood was made to do a whole lot of amazing things with the sun and photosynthesis, but most important to us is the healing and alkalizing affects in the human body. And the enzymes? They are in every living food and they assist in digestion by breaking down food particles for assimilation. Cooking destroys those enzymes and then your body has to use its own enzymes which detracts from the main goal of digestion and assimilation of nutrients.

 

THE SUM UP:

  1. Before Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner – drink 16 – 32 oz of water with lemon
  2. Breakfast – water based fruit
  3. Lunch and Dinner – Add a bunch of raw leafy greens to your typical meals
